The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are very interested in knowing to what extent healthy behaviors can be promoted through social networks. The NetHealth Study funded by these governmental agencies will address this issue by using smartphones to gather information on people’s social networks and Fitbit activity trackers to gather information on people’s physical activity and sleep patterns. Five hundred incoming Notre Dame first year students are currently enrolled in the study and an additional 400 students are now being recruited.
